Ted DeWitt-Clinton is a cheerful, buoyant teen who wears oval-lens glasses. His medium-length blond hair is kept combed back. He usually wears a light blue long-sleeved shirt (with a white T-shirt underneath), tan slacks, and brown shoes.

Because he played such a major role in "The New Kid," one would assume Ted would be considered a major character. However, he appears in the series less frequently than Andrea does, and except for "The New Kid" is not often seen.
Ted first appeared in "The New Kid," in which he came to Lawndale High after being homeschooled for most of his life. Though obviously brilliant and well educated, he was initially clueless about many aspects of popular culture from which his parents had shielded him (e.g., chewing gum and the Beatles). His only date with Daria went awry when he met some guys at a game arcade and ran off with them. He fell out of view after that until "A Tree Grows in Lawndale," where he watches a football game from the stands, sitting near Kevin Thompson. He reappears in "I Loathe a Parade" to take a yearbook photo of Daria and Tom Sloane together, mistaking them for a dating couple.
Ted's appearance caused some controversy in the fandom, as many viewers did not want him hooked up with Daria. There is reason to believe that this situation would not have lasted long anyway, as there is some question about Ted's sexual orientation (see below).
The W in DeWitt is capitalized, according to the MTV Daria website.

Ted is sometimes shipped with Daria in fanfiction, but he is more often seen dating Stacy Rowe (an innocent-looking girl for an naive, innocent guy), thanks to Austin Covello's 1998 fanfic, "A Day in the Life of Stacy."

1. Line drawing of Ted, from a 2001 flipbook called "Oh, the Obscurity!" from the MTV Daria website. The flipbook's caption read, Daria's photo-happy "like interest" from "The New Kid" had corn in his yard…and rocks in his head, since he let our darling Daria get away. (First appeared in "The New Kid"). Daria had a strong interest in photography in Beavis and Butt-head (in the episode "Sporting Goods"), well played upon here.
2. Daria and Ted first meet in the yearbook production room at Lawndale High ("The New Kid").
3. Ted discovers chewing gum, thanks to Daria ("The New Kid").
4. Ted demonstrates a superior grip on Kevin Thompson to settle a disagreement ("The New Kid").
5. The Lawndale home of Ted's parents, Leslie DeWitt and Grant Clinton ("The New Kid"). Note the corn growing in the front yard and the solar heater on the roof.
6. Ted's parents, in the Morgendorffers' family room complaining about Daria's influence over Ted ("The New Kid").
7. Daria and Ted have a real date at Pizza King, the first for each if you don't count Daria going out with Robert ("The New Kid"). They hit it off quite well, at first.
8. Then Ted dumps Daria to hang out with burly football players and teach them swordfighting tricks. Sure.
9. Ted reappears next in "A Tree Grows in Lawndale," sitting in the bleachers watching a Lawndale High football game. Kevin, who injured his knee and believes he is a loser now, has decided to sit with the geek/nerd crowd, meaning Ted, Nerd 1, Nerd 2, and Nerd 3.

The Definitive Daria, Chapter 3, a webpage from the MTV Daria website. Ted here speaks directly to the viewer, breaking the fourth wall as he talks about his life and interests. It is this monologue in particular that has sparked rumors that he is actually gay, but hasn't figured it out yet.
