Description

Evan is a lean athletic teen, handsome and interested in physical fitness. His long brown hair looks uncombed in a stylish way. Evan usually wears a black T-shirt, gray pants, and brown shoes.

Notes

Evan's big moment came in "See Jane Run," when Jane Lane began dating him. That moment ended when Evan bad-mouthed Daria and Jane dumped him. In fact, there isn't much about Evan's character that would earn the dislike with which most fans approach him, except that he has a marked disdain for those who don't exercise (including the Fashion Club), regards Daria as a loser, and accepts the minor-league corruption of getting byes on tests in exchange for doing well in sports meets. Being an athlete, Evan holds winning in higher esteem than pure ethics. In that sense, he's exactly like the rest of us.

Another character in the series was named Evan (Jodie Landon's baby brother), and one had a similar name (Ethan, from "Life in the Past Lane"). The three characters' names are sometimes confused by fans.

Fanfiction Appearances

Evan rarely has a major role in any fanfic. When he does, it's often not a pleasant one, and he comes across as a jerk (e.g., "All's Weird That Ends Weird," by Elizabeth Thaler). He assaults Jane in "Jane's Crisis," by The Unknown; however, in later stories by the same author, he repents while in prison and asks Jane's forgiveness when released. In some stories, however, Evan and Jane reconcile (John Berry's "Best Years of Our Lives Revisited") or, in alternate universes in which Daria's friendship with Jane never quit takes off, hook up (Renfield's "Malice of Absence," Brother Grimace's "Victory Lane," The Alchemist's "Jane on the Side").
