Description

This slim, strawberry-blonde student, the default look on her face being one of serenity and bliss, makes her first appearance in "Esteemsters." She typically wears white slacks and a light tan or ecru long-sleeve blouse with three top buttons. Happy Girl also has a wide dark-brown belt and dark shoes, no jewelery evident. Her long hair is parted on the right. (Do not confuse this character with Three Buttons, who has a similar blouse in blue and parts her blonde hair in the middle.)

Notes

Certain fans are of the opinion that Happy Girl resembles one of the most prominent and respected conservative political commentators in America, well known for her balanced views. (Well, not exactly—she reminds one fan of Ann Coulter.) [Augh!—TAG] Happy Girl's most prominent appearance in the series took place in "Fair Enough," where she was the subject of Ms. Barch the Fortuneteller's gloomy predictions in the romance department.

It may be supposed that Happy Girl is exactly that: a cheery optimist, no matter what happens (almost).

Image Gallery Notes

1. Happy Girl makes her début in "Esteemsters," as Quinn gets out of her father's car. Standing among several other students, Happy Girl regards Quinn with interest.

2. At the assembly near the end of "Esteemsters," Happy Girl positively beams at Quinn's agony, after Daria announced she was Quinn's sister. Up to this point, Happy Girl's expression ranged from bored to, well, a normal kind of happy.

3. In Ms. Defoe's class, Happy Girl sits next to V-Neck, the only evidence that points to Happy Girl being in the same graduating class as Daria ("The Invitation").

4. A rare moment of desolation, after having her fortune told and learning she will have a disastrous future relationship. Ms. Barch, the fortuneteller, knows how to make others distraught ("Fair Enough").

5. As Daria and Jane pass by, Happy Girl breaks into tears and takes flight from the fortuneteller's tent ("Fair Enough").

6. Uniformed and adorned with epaulets and deely-boppers, Happy Girl is one of the banner carriers during the homecoming parade ("I Loathe a Parade"). She is apparently part of the Lawndale High marching band's color guard. There is no evidence she plays in the band or is a drum majorette.

7. A colorful line drawing of Happy Girl (from "I Loathe a Parade") appears on the MTV Daria website (image modified for clarity).

8. Looking especially happy, Happy Girl has just signed up for track team tryouts in "See Jane Run."

9. Getting ready for the tryout, Happy Girl stretches in the background ("See Jane Run").

10. Unlike Jane, Happy Girl does not make the team, but she cheers for Jane from the bleachers at the upper left corner of the image ("See Jane Run").

11. Happy Girl passes in the background while Mr DeMartino overhears the matrimonial plans of Ms Barch and Mr O'Neill (Is It College Yet?).

12. For some reason, Happy Girl is not happy at this moment in the school cafeteria (episode unknown). Perhaps it was the mystery loaf.

13. Happy Girl chats with Blue Shirt and White Sweater as Jodie and Mack talk in Is It College Yet? (Jodie and Mack, in the foreground, were removed for clarity.)

14. Just in front of Daria and Tom in "Life in the Past Lane," Happy Girl watches the entertainment unfold as Upchuck and Stacy perform their magic act. She sits next to Pie Cap.

15. Happy Girl is content to be a bystander when Brittany falls on her face doing the splits. This occurs in Ms. Morris's PE class in "See Jane Run."

16. Sitting near the center of this image, in the second row, Happy Girl watches a "medieval" student play in "Fair Enough."

17. Happy Girl sits with her back to the viewer in the cafeteria ("The Invitation"). She is eating lunch with (moving clockwise) Blue Shirt, Stacy Rowe, and Shaggy.

18. Tommy Sherman wolf-whistles at Happy Girl as she passes by in "The Misery Chick." Tommy dies less than five minutes later.

19. Happy Girl is unperturbed by Kevin's dozing as she watches a bridal expo in the Lawndale High auditorium ("I Don't").
