Description

Scarlett's nickname comes from her red, shoulder-length hair, worn parted in the middle. One strand of hair, perhaps braided, always falls across her face. Her nose appears to be turned up. Her usual outfit consists of a long-sleeved black jacket, frock coat, or sweater with a deep V-neck (occasionally appears to be dark gray); a burnt-umber blouse, T-shirt, or dress under the overgarment; an ankle-length burnt-umber skirt (possibly a full-length dress, as it is the same color as her blouse); black high-heeled boots or shoes with pointed toes; and a large silver (?) ankh on a neck chain. Her gray school backpack appears to have only one shoulder strap, the left one. (See text for Image #1, below.) The gray backpack seems to have a blue or green tint in some images.

Notes

Fanfic characterizations of Scarlett have been heavily influenced by her appearance in the fanfic "Scarlett," even down to her fandom name, possession of magical powers, and ownership of a pet white mouse (usually named Roger) that sometimes talks.

Fanfiction Appearances

"Scarlett" was the first known fanfic to make Scarlett the central character. Since that time, many fanfic writers have adopted her into their own stories and given her assorted roles.

Image Gallery Notes

1. Our first view of Scarlett shows her among a group of new students in "Esteemsters." Her family must have moved to Lawndale recently, or else she transferred from another school for some reason. In this rear view, Scarlett's backpack has two shoulder straps, while it has only one in many later scenes. Did the right-shoulder strap break?

2. Same new group, Scarlett visible behind Daria ("Esteemsters").

3. Close-up of Scarlett behind Daria ("Esteemsters").

4. A peculiar "cross-eyed" Scarlett from "College Bored." She isn't really cross-eyed (we hope), but her eyes are drawn in a peculiar way that often makes it difficult to tell what she is looking at.

9. Scarlett talks with Green Cap Dude at his locker as Daria and Jane walk past ("My Night at Daria's").

10. Close-up of Daria, Scarlett, and Jane from #9.

11. Scarlett and Josh board the Ferris wheel in "Fair Enough" just after Daria and Jane get on. Josh was earlier seen with Burnout Girl at the fair in the same episode, which has led to fan speculation that Josh and Burnout Girl are brother and sister (same hair color, arrived together). Thus, Josh was not being "unfaithful" by hanging out with Scarlett.

12. Scarlett and Josh near the top of the Ferris wheel in #11 ("Fair Enough"). Daria and Jane are behind them.

13. At Pizza King, Scarlett has a slice of pizza and a drink ("Fat Like Me"). If she is sitting with someone, her companion(s) cannot be seen in this scene. Kevin and the Three Js sit behind Scarlett in another booth, clowning around.

14. Scarlett joins the crowd in "The Lawndale File."

15. Lunchtime at school in "Just Add Water." Scarlett appears to be sitting alone.

16. Poor Scarlett shares Upchuck's table in Ms. Barch's science class, in "Fizz Ed." She must have worked out an effective way of making him keep his distance and behave.

17. Scarlett (lower left corner) is one of the first to walk up to the Z93 truck in "Jake of Hearts."

18. On another day in "Jake of Hearts," Scarlett (lower left corner) still hangs around the Z93 truck and DJs.

19. Ever the fan of the "Mental in the Morning" DJs, Scarlett applauds and cheers in "Jake of Hearts."

20. Scarlett cleans out her extremely messy locker at the end of school in Is It Fall Yet? Talk about a bird's nest. Daria and Jane walk by moments later, having a tense conversation in the wake of The Kiss.

21. A gag "outtake" offered at the end of Is It Fall Yet? shows Daria accidentally trip Jane as the scene in #20 is being "filmed," while Scarlett and Bib Overalls look on. Note that Scarlett's jacket or sweater has changed colors from black to dark gray.

22. One of three views showing Scarlett's placement in the graduating class at the end of Is It College Yet? She finished school, and that is the last we see of her.

23. Is It College Yet? (see #22).
