Description

This tall, moderately busty girl usually wears a white midriff-baring tank top and light-gray trousers. Her white belt has a heart-shaped buckle (kinda cheesy), and she wears large hoop earrings, one per ear. She has a thick mass of curly/wavy black hair falling to her shoulder blades.

The style of animation used for her eyes (showing the white of the cornea under the iris but not above it) often makes it look as if Tank Top is looking upward instead of forward.

Tank Top appears to be right handed.

Notes

One of Lawndale High's few black students, Tank Top is pretty much like all the other student backgrounders: quiet, well behaved, and uninterested in Daria and Jane. A review of images of her in the series indicate little remarkable about her, except that she is very often seen alone, especially when eating (in the school cafeteria or pizzeria) or at a social event like a party. Why does she keep herself separate from everyone else, even in a crowd? She is never seen with anyone on a date, either, though a number of times she seems to be eying, talking to, or sitting next to white male students. The most excitement she ever shows is while watching sports events, though she also looks excited in "The Daria Hunter" playing paintball.

Image Gallery Notes

1. Tank Top's first appearance in Daria is in the group that sees Quinn Morgendorffer's arrival at Lawndale High ("Esteemsters"). Like the other students, she appears to be intrigued by Quinn. No reaction to Daria is shown.

2. Tank Top and Pie Cap calmly sit together and watch as Daria and Jane speak to the students in the auditorium about their self-esteem experiences in "Esteemsters."

3. With Jennifer 3 at her side, Tank Top listens to the DJs and Upchuck in "Jake of Hearts."

4. Tank Top in the back of the student crowd around the DJs in one scene in "Jake of Hearts."

5. Tank Top reacts with shock at Daria's announcement of her father's heart attack in "Jake of Hearts."

6. One of Tank Top's most familiar set-ups: standing by herself and drinking from a cup at a party ("Groped by an Angel").

7. Dressed in green fatigues, Tank Top heads off to the paintball game in a school bus in "The Daria Hunter."

8. "The Daria Hunter": Once off the bus, Tank Top and the other students (except for Daria and Jane) appear quite excited about the paintball game to come. Les stands next to Tank Top.

9. Tank Top sits next to Hot Shades on a school bus heading for the Mall of the Millennium ("Malled"). She thus has an economics class with Mrs. Bennett.

10. Another familiar set-up: eating alone ("The New Kid").

11. Wearing a long red evening gown, Tank Top listens to conversation on the Princess Fairy ("Just Add Water"). In a later scene, when the cruise ship hits a garbage barge and chaos breaks out, she can be seen running from the casino as the deck tilts and people around her fall down. (Alternate image: her left arm and head are visible on the right side of the scene.) She does not seem to have a date, but nearly all the kids on the cruise appear to be hanging out as a large group and not in couples.

12. Eating alone again in the cafeteria ("The New Kid")

13. While resting on the grass at school between classes, Tank Top chats with Blue Shirt ("Jake of Hearts"). He seems to be standing between her legs, which is provocative if true. The students have just now heard something unusual and will hurry off to discover the DJs playing music in the school parking lot ("Jake of Hearts").

14. Cheerleading exercises are conducted during girls' phys ed class with Ms. Morris ("See Jane Run"). Tank Top shows no enthusiasm for this, but neither do any other girls who aren't cheerleaders. See, however, #23: she's good at headstands.

15. Brittany falls over after doing a split, and Tank Top and Bib Overalls move in to help while the other girls stand around and watch ("See Jane Run").

16. Tank Top and White Sweater together sit in the auditorium (episode unknown).

17. Time to clean out lockers when the school year ends (Is It Fall Yet?). It is guessed that Tank Top is in Daria's grade.

18. Tank Top has a front-row seat at the track meets where Jane Lane runs for glory, still by herself but cheering wildly in several similar scenes ("See Jane Run").

19. As per #6, Tank Top stands alone at Brittany's party in "The Invitation," cup in hand, apparently looking up at the ceiling.

20. Tank Top appears to be eying Shaggy in "The Invitation." Has she noticed that he has duplicated himself? (See Shaggy's webpage for details.) Tank Top is standing in exactly the right spot to see both Shaggys at once. Did she?

21. Tank Top joins the crowd in admiring Sandi Griffin's new slim figure in "Fat Like Me."

22. "Arts n' Crass" reveals Tank Top (far left) is one of the students in Ms. Defoe's art class. She probably graduated with Daria and Jane, then.

23. As Andrea pouts at being made to do cheerleader exercises by Ms. Morris, Tank Top stands on her head ("See Jane Run").

24. During the bridal expo held in the Lawndale High auditorium ("I Don't"), Tank Top can be seen in the lowest row of seats in this scene (just right of center), frowning and looking back in annoyance when Kevin Thompson spills his drink on himself and shouts out.

25. At the Landons' Fourth of July party, Tank Top (alone) tries to decide which hors d'œuvre looks best (Is It Fall Yet?). Her presence at so many parties, even by herself, seems to indicate some degree of popularity. Why else would anyone invite her?

26. Her loner situation does not change after graduation, seen here again at the Landons' mansion for a party (Is It College Yet?). Tank Top is on the upper porch, looking out over the lawn with a drink in her hand.

27. In a blue patterned bikini, Tank Top dances on the beach at the start of Is It Fall Yet? Interestingly, she still appears to be alone, facing away from other dancing students.
